When should I shoot my show?

Pick a performance which is low-pressure with the right audience

When you film your show is dependent on your run, and your type of show. If your show is one-night only, its a an easy decision to make. If it's a longer run, it's worth thinking about what show will be best to film. We recommend never filming on the first or last show of a run, as these are the most high pressure nights, and also leave no opportunity to retry filming if anything does go wrong.
If your show is highly dependent on audience, like comedy, then getting a night with a good audience is key. If you know a night is likely to be busy, then go for it. If a night is likely to bring in a rowdier crowd that could derail the show, maybe give it a miss. We also recommend booking your filming in advance, so that you can guide friendly audiences towards tickets, or fill seats with promotional offers.

On the flipside, if your show is quieter or more sombre, perhaps a performance with a lighter audience would be better for filming. For shows which are high energy, or ensemble pieces, consider picking a show which comes after a day off for the company. If your venue gets a lot of sound bleed, try to pick a time where the noise will be lowest. Every show is unique, and every show has it's own energy, which needs to be matched in the day you pick to film it.
